Unified Pain Management recently experienced a data security incident that may have impacted protected health information (PHI) of some of the patients to whom we provide services.
What happened?
On March 21, 2023, Unified Pain Management became aware of suspicious activity associated with some of its corporate email accounts. As soon as Unified Pain Management identified the suspicious activity, it immediately implemented its incident response protocols and engaged external cybersecurity experts to conduct a forensic investigation. The investigation, unfortunately, could not determine whether any of that information had been accessed or removed during the incident, only that it was present.
What information was involved?
Unified Pain Management is currently reviewing documents that may have been compromised to identify any individuals or protected health information that may have been impacted. Information stored in the impacted email accounts could include some combination of patient names, addresses, health insurance policy number, Social Security numbers, payment information, and health information such as treatment and diagnosis.
What is Unified Pain Management doing?
Unified Pain Management has taken steps to prevent a similar incident in the future, including conducting a global password reset and tightening firewall restrictions. Unified Pain Management will also offer impacted individuals credit monitoring and identity restoration services at no cost.
What you can do:
It is always a good idea to remain vigilant for incidents of identity theft or fraud, including reviewing credit reports and financial statements for suspicious activity.
